Welcome to GO FAR!

We are so pleased that your child has joined Dillard Elementary’s GoFar (Go Out For A Run) Club! Between now and April 21, 2012, our student runners (and their families!) will learn the importance of

  • regular physical activity,
  • healthy eating habits, and
  • the traits that make up positive character development.

And they’ll have a great time in the process!

Students from our county’s schools and community groups will train for at least 10 weeks to prepare to run in their first 5K race, the Rockingham County GoFar 5K. Here at Dillard, we’re in training for much of the school year, meeting on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:15. (Click here for the full training schedule.)

Rockingham County GoFar is organized by the Rockingham County Partnership for Children. The 1st Annual Rockingham County GO FAR 5K race was held on April 30, 2011, at Reidsville High School, with approximately 200 students, family members, and other community runners. The second annual 5K race, scheduled for April 21, 2012, will very likely see an even larger turnout. Don’t miss out on all the fun and excitement!

Great Places to Run

GoFar runners should run at least twice a week to get ready for the big race. You’re encouraged to work out with your child so the whole family can enjoy the healthy benefits and the fun! Here are some great places to run, walk, and even bike together after school, on weekends, and over holiday breaks.

Farris Park

The path around the pond is almost exactly a mile, which makes it easy to know how far you’ve gone—just count your laps! The surface is gravel and dirt, and it’s a little hilly to help you get extra-ready for the GoFar 5K. Bring a snack to enjoy at a picnic table by the pond when you’re finished running. Restrooms are near the parking lot. Continue Reading
